Abstract: | - 1.1. An enzyme which catalyzes the formation of acetyl CoA from acetate, ATP, and CoA has been purified from a plant source, spinach.
- 2.2. The acetate activating enzyme, which may be associated with the mitochondria, has been found in all plant tissues in which it has been sought.
- 3.3. The preparation of the partially purified enzyme is active with a variety of normal and branched-chain fatty acids in addition to acetate.
- 4.4. Acetoacetate formation by the acetate activation system indicates the presence in the plant of acetoacetate cleavage enzyme.
