The presence of water-soluble glucan synthases is essential for adherence of Streptococcus mutans to glass surfaces

Abstract:The sucrose-dependent water-insoluble glucan synthase-adherence system of Streptococcus mutans was tested using highly purified glucosyltransferases. The presence of water-soluble glucan synthases was found to be essential for S. mutans adherence to a glass surface.
