Abstract: | Summary Phage T1 transduces Bio+ by special mechanism which leads to a higher efficiency of Bio+ transduction than other bacterial markers. Efficient Bio+ transduction depends on a site located between the galactose operon and the bacterial attachment site for phage . Evidence is presented which supports the hypothesis that the site is essential for efficient Bio+ transduction because at the site phage T1 initiates head filling in a polar (unidirectional) fashion leading to increased pickup of the Bio+ marker. |
