Abstract: | The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was applied to determine hemolysins produced by Aeromonas hydrophila. This assay detected quantitatively each of the 2 immunologically distinct hemolysins with its homologous anti-hemolysin. The hemolysins produced by 40 isolates from different sources were separable into 2 types, with identical or at least similar antigenicity to either of the 2 hemolysins. Cholera-like enterotoxin was not detected in any strain by GM1-ELISA. The ELISA systems may be valuable in clarifying the role of hemolysin in A. hydrophila diarrheal disease. |
