Abstract: | Mimicry – a survival strategy for juvenile wrasses Due to high density of predators and competitors in coral reefs, especially juvenile fishes are forced to develop new survival strategies. In mimicry one animal shows great similarity to another in order to deceive its enemies. Juveniles of the wrasse genus Coris mimic the colouration of Anemone fish. Anemone fish live in symbiosis with their stinging host anemone and are therefore protected from predators. Wrasse mimics deceive their predators with their Anemone fish coloration in order to profit from higher survival rates. |
