Measurement of the curvature-elastic modulus of egg lecithin bilayers

Abstract:The first determination of the curvature-elastic modulus k of a bilayer is presented. The method is based on the microscopic study of thermally fluctuating bilayer tubes. For egg lecithin at room temperature we obtain k = (2.3 ± 0.3) · 10−12erg.
