Abstract:The excretion of individual 11-deoxy- and 11-oxo-17-keto-steroids in the adult rhesus monkey was measured by gas-liquid chromatography. The total 11-deoxy-17-KS excretion was 112 and 116 μg per 24 hr in two males and between 8 and 42 μg per 24 hr in six females. Androsterone excretion was 5 to 7 times that of etiocholanolone in the two males. The sum of the 11-oxo-17-KS excretion was 227 and 297 μg per 24 hr in the males and ranged from 62 to 89 μg per 24 hr in the females. The Zimmermann chromogens were 20 to 50 times the sum of the individual keto-steroids, suggesting the presence of a non-steroidal Zimmermann chromogen in the urine of the adult rhesus monkey.
