Abstract: | Cytochrome aa3 was found to occur in Halobacterium halobiumat an early exponential phase of growth. Some of its spectralproperties were determined with a solubilized membrane fractionof the bacterium. Cytochrome c oxidizing activity of the cytochromeaa3 was not dependent on salt concentration, but decreased steeplywith increasing buffer concentration of the reaction mixture, just as the activity of cytochrome aa3 from non-halophilic bacteria.
