The incidence of fungi in the throat

Summary A brief literature review on the incidence of fungi from various sites in the body is presented. Throat swabs were taken from 468 patients attending the Johannesburg General Hospital between March 1968 and February 1969. The fungi obtained comprised yeasts only and no filamentous species. The overall incidence of fungi was 44 %, but various factors were shown to influence this.
