Abstract:The 44 chemical components of the leaves essential oils from Bang Gan Sour Orange (Citrus aurantium L.),Yi Da Li Sour Orange, Mo Luo Ge Sour Orange,Dai Dai Sour Orange,Xing Shan Sour Orange,and Gou Tou Sour Orange were identified by GC and GC-MS. Among the six varieties of sour orange studied, the chemical composition of only the Gou Tou Sour Orange was different from those of other five sour oranges which had the almost same chemical components: their main chemical components were all the linalool (33.91-39.75%),linalyl ace tate (24.18-30.24%), and alpha-terpineol(8.58-10.39%); other chemical cmponents and their contents were almost same. Bnt the main chemical component of the Gon Tou Sour Orange was beta-pinene (25.9%); linalool and alpha-terpineol only had 10.70 and 0.85% resp.; what is more, it didn't contain linalyl acetate. In addition,the Gou Tou Sour Orange also had the different morphological characters from other five sour oranges. All the above results illustrated that the Gou Tou Sour Orange was not a true sour orange, its position in botany need studying still further.
