A single mouse oocyte whose transcriptome was amplified, sequenced, and compared to individual transcriptomes of twenty other oocytes from two different genotypes. The oocyte is shown within a heat map from the gene-by-gene expression analysis of all detected transcripts from these oocytes. Reich et al. (this issue) test the transcript variance among individual oocytes and determine that they cluster by genotype.
