Abstract: | Several possible substrates and intermediates of phytosterol dealkylation were tested for their ability to support growth and development in the silkworm, . These compounds were classified into “effective” (fully substitutive for cholesterol), “partially effective” (partially supporting growth) and “ineffective” These results are discussed in relation to the mechanism of phytosterol dealkylation in insects. |
