Abstract: | Chernobyl fallout provided a pulsed release to the environment and an opportunity to study sediment mixing processes in lakes. The paper presents the application of a mathematical modelling technique using a radionuclide as tracer. The model simulates the radionuclide profiles in sediments and computes the concentrations by solving numerically a one-dimensional mass-balance equation. The mixing-advection-decay model has been designed to include time-variable input capabilities and a depth-dependent mixing coefficient. |
