| Abstract: | The fungus Mortierella isabellina ATCC 42613 converts phenyl-substituted olefins to vicinal diols. The substrate selectivity and product stereochemistry of this biotransformation can be rationalized by application of the model developed for benzylic hydroxylation of aromatic hydrocarbons by M isabellina. |
