Chromosomal incompatibility in Escherichia,coli K-12: A new explanation for the observed instability of minichromosome inheritance

The minichromosome pWS6 was unstable in $\text{Escherichia}$,$\text{coli}$ K-12 but became stable upon transfer to $\text{Salmonella}$,$\text{typhimurium}$. The instability of pWS6 was restored when pWS6 was brought back to $\text{E.}$,$\text{coli}$, an observation consistent with the proposed phenomena of chromosomal incompatibility.
