Abstract: | Cellular metabolic rates might regulate aging by impinging on genomic stability through the DNA repair pathways. A new study published in Cell (Mostoslavsky et al., 2006) reports that deficiency in one of the mammalian Sir2 homologs, SIRT6, results in genome instability through the DNA base excision repair pathway and leads to aging-associated degenerative phenotypes. |
