Abstract: | Seventy chimpanzees, representing Pan paniscus (the pygmy chimp) and all four races of the common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), were examined for electrophoretic variation in their serum esterases. Only three variant electromorphs were observed at these six loci. One of these was at the albumin-associated esterase locus, and the other two were at esterase 4. This is the first report of any variation in an esterase or albumin in chimpanzees. |
