| Abstract: | Polyribouridylic acid poly(U)] labelled with tritium was annealed to chromosomes from Rhynchosciara salivary glands to detect the distribution of A-T rich DNA. A clear pattern of binding was observed to several locations corresponding with structural features of the salivary gland polytene chromosomes. Strong binding also occurred to the cytoplasm of certain testicular cells in Rhynchosciara. These findings are interpreted in terms of the distribution of structural and metabolic sequences rich in polyadenylic acid. |
