Kura clover (Trifolium ambiguum): Legume for forage and soil conservation

Kura clover (Trifolium ambiguum) is a perennial legume adapted to many temperate regions where grassland agriculture is of importance. Previous and widespread adoption of this species has not taken place because of problems associated with inoculation and subsequent nitrogen fixation. A commercial inoculant is now available that has proven to be effective in a number of trials. With an extensive root-rhizome complex, Kura clover may find use as a forage, for soil conservation purposes, and in forage crop improvement programs. Kura clover establishes very slowly, however, and seed supplies at the present time are very limited. Widespread use of this species will, therefore, proceed slowly.
