Abstract:The various calcium fractions, magnesium, phosphate, and protein levels in the blood of patients on maintenance dialysis and normal controls were determined. Results obtained showed that the patients on dialysis were normocalcemic with normal ionized calcium levels. However, the ultrafiltrable and complexed calcium values were significantly elevated. They also showed hypermagnesaemia and hyperphosphataemia. The results obtained are discussed in relation to those obtained from other centers.
