Gibberellin, daylength and temperature effects on floral and vegetative development in white clover

The effects of gibberellin A₃ (GA₃) application on five white clover populations was assessed in both glasshouse and controlled environments. Daylength, temperature and GA₃ interactions were also examined. Gibberellin A₃ did not induce vegetative plants to flower when daylength and temperature requirements were not met. In flowering plants, GA₃ increased the number of reproductive buds per stolon and peduncle length, but did not affect other floral characters. Gibberellin A₃ depressed total stolon numbers, but increased the number of nodes per stolon, internode length, leaf area and petiole length.
