Abstract: | The production rate ofEichhornia crassipes was stimulated by water of the river Ganga and by prevailing environmental conditions. It was highest in October (4.76 g.m–2.d–1) and was positively correlated with ammonia nitrogen and total phosphorus in the water but negatively correlated with total alkalinity and transparency. The average annual production of 14.13 t.ha–1.a–1 is equivalent to the average production of 0.067 t.ha–1.a–1 phosphorus and 0.40 t.ha–1.a–1 nitrogen. The concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus of the plant varied seasonally. They decreased with increasing production rate in summer and monsoon. |
