Abstract: | The ouabain sensitive and K+-dependent p-nitrophenyl-phosphatase was inhibited by polyamines. The order of effectiveness was spermine spermidine putrescine = cadaverine. The half maximum inhibition concentration of spermine was approximately 0.03 mM and 0.8 mM in the presence of 0.5 mM and 3.0 mM KCl in the reaction mixtures, respectively. Basic amino acids and hydroxylamine inhibited slightly. Other amines such as glycine and histamine were without effect. Spermine did not inhibit other membrane bound phosphatases, such as glucose-6-phosphatase, 5′-nucleotidase, alkaline phosphatase and ouabain insensitive p-nitrophenylphosphatase activity at pH 7.5 |
