Abstract: | The presence of amylase and maltase in the stomach, intestine and pyloric caeca of Heterotis niloticus is demonstrated. Amylase activity was highest in the fore-gut, followed by the pyloric caeca, while the lowest activity was
in the hind-gut. Optimum pH for intestinal amylase was 8.45. Sucrase, lactase and cellulase were not detected. |
