PROTEIN SYNTHESIS IN NORMAL AND SCRAPIE MOUSE BRAIN

Damage to the brain as a result of an intracerebral injection of physiological saline does not appreciably affect the rate of protein synthesis in mouse brain. The in vivo and in vitro incorporation of labelled amino acids into mitochondria and their in vivo incorporation into nuclei, microsomes, nerve ending particles, myelin and cell sap were compared in normal and scrapie-affected mice. No significant differences were found.
