Summary The uptake of orthophosphate by phosphorus-deficient cells of a newly isolated strain of Micrococcus denitrificans was investigated under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. A rapid uptake of orthophosphate was detected in the presence of oxygen and under anaerobic conditions in the presence of nitrate. Stored phosphates were chiefly acid-soluble and-insoluble polyphosphates. The results indicate the coupling of oxydative phosphorylation to nitrate-respiration. |
