Abstract:The activity of glycerophosphorylcholine synthetase, a newly discovered enzyme involved in the synthesis of acyl-specific phosphatidylcholines, is reported in rat lung and muscle. Its subcellular location appears to be mitochondrial. The implication of these findings in the synthesis of lung surfactant and the pathology of muscular dystrophy are discussed.
Keywords:glycerophosphorylcholine  phosphatidylcholine  mitochondria  lung surfactant  muscular dystrophy  calcium pump
