Observations on the distribution of rhizoids on shoots of pleurocarpous mosses

Abstract

Rhizoids emerge from only the ventral surface of creeping shoots of most pleurocarpous mosses. This has been shown to be endogenously controlled by the shoots and not due to any external stimulus.
