Abstract: | In a previous article, a multistage model of carcinogenesis was introduced that takes into account the role of DNA damage, DNA repair, and cell replication on the incidence of malignancies. For this model the number of detectable clones of initiated cells is derived and model parameters are estimated using data arising from a two-stage skin-painting experiment in mice. The data from this experiment are interpretable in terms of the cellular events involved in initiation and promotion. |
