Abstract:
  • 1.1. An inhibitor of erythrocyte membrane (Ca2+ + Mg2+)-ATPase was isolated from pig haemolysate along with (Ca2+ + Mg2+-ATPase activator.
  • 2.2. The inhibitor also suppressed phosphodiesterase and adenylate cyclase activities.
  • 3.3. The inhibitor is relatively heat labile as compared with the activator.
  • 4.4. (Ca2+ + Mg2+-ATPase of stored erythrocyte membrane responded to the inhibitor but not to the activator.
  • 5.5. The inhibitor suppressed (Ca2+ + Mg2+)-ATPase activity of ethylene-diaminetetraacetic acid extracted but not of ethyleneglycol-bis-(β-aminoethyl ether)N.N'-tetraacetic acid extracted erythrocyte membrane. The activator stimulated (Ca2+ + Mg2+-ATPase of both types of membrane.
  • 6.6. Gel nitration on Sephadex revealed two inhibitor peaks of molecular weights 56.000 and 35.000 in contrast to 42.000 for the activator.
