Abstract: | Structured models of antibiotic fermentation that quantify maturation and aging of product forming biomass are fitted to experimental data. Conditions of superiority of repeated fed batch cultivation are characterized on the basis of a performance criterion that includes penicillin productivity and costs of operation. Emphasis is placed on the relevance of such research to the model aided design of optimal cyclic operation.List of Symbols
