Abstract:	A small molecular weight RNA isolated from barley embryos inhibits specifically protein synthesis initiation. It does not bind to Oligo (dT)-Cellulose indicating that it is devoid of long poly(A) stretches. It is a single stranded RNA as it is sensitive to pancreatic RNase. This is the first report of such an RNA in a plant system.
