A note on the effect on the aerobic deterioration of maize silage of the manipulation of the microflora by means of antibiotics

The antimycotic antibiotic pimaricin and a mixture of antibacterial antibiotics were applied separately or together to maize silage under aerobic conditions. The aim was to control specifically the development of the mycotic and bacterial components of the microflora. Effective control of the microflora and temperature was achieved. A large contribution to aerobic deterioration appears to have been made by bacteria.
