Abstract: | The haemoglobins and globins of bass, Dicentrarchus labrax (L.) have been studied by starch and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Five haemoglobin components were found. These haemoglobins appear to result from the combination of four different globin monomers. The molecular weight of the pooled haemoglobin is about 54 400, confirming its tetrameric form. The evolutionary significance of multiple haemoglobins is discussed. |
