Abstract:The changes in contents of DNA, RNA and soluble protein and the SDS-PAGE of soluble protein during somatic embryogenesis in wheat protoplast culture were studied. The results showed that the contents of DNA, RNA and protein increased rapidly while the beginning of the embryogenic calli differentiation. The peak arrived at the formation of somatic embryo. Great changes took place in the constituent of soluble protein. New proteins which had molecular weights of 71KD, 58KD, 51KD, 31KD, 26KD, 25.5KD, and 27KD appeared. The 58KD protein was the embryo-specific protein.
