Abstract:The deposition of nutrients N, P, Ca, Mg, Na and K from the atmosphere on a coastal maquis ecosystem was studied over a 12-month period (1981–1982). The annual precipitation during that period was 1065 mm. Nutrient input was estimated as 5.72, 0.24, 30.31, 3.40, 23.99 and 1616 kg ha–1 year–1 for N, P, Ca, Mg, Na and K, respectively. Chemical analysis of throughfall showed enrichment for all the nutrients studied. It was concluded that nutrient input from bulk precipitation is an important contribution to nutrient cycling of the Greek maquis ecosystem.
