The Effect of Some Growth-regulating Substances on the Development of Sclerotium rolfsii (Sacc.)

Experiments were carried out in order to establish the effectof some growth regulators on the development of Sclerotium rolfsii.Triethanolamine was found to be physiologically active; coumarin,maleic hydrazide, and triethanolamine cause pronounced inhibitionof germination of sclerotia and reduction in the number of sclerotiaper culture. Coumarin in concentrations of 50–100 p.p.m.increased the size of the developing sclerotia. -Naphthylaceticacid inhibited germination but had a promoting effect on thedevelopment of sclerotia. In concentrations of 50–100p.p.m. it caused a more compact and dense development of themycelium and lowered the rate of growth.
