Abstract: | The paper describes a method of collecting unconsolidated lake sediment by freezing the in situ sediment to the outer surface of an aluminium tube. This prevents any disturbance and disruption of the stratigraphy which would otherwise occur because of the release of dissolved gas resulting from the pressure and temperature change on bringing the sediment to the surface. Sampling methods were tested on the laminated sediments of Lake Barrine, North Queensland. |
