Abstract: | When assayed by a newly devised, simple and quantitative method, "motilometry", the motility of E. coli S-26 was found stimulated by cyclic adenosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cyclic AMP) and 8-hydroxy cyclic AMP as well as histamine, catecholamines and inhibited by cyclic guanosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cyclic GMP). The stimulation elicited by cyclic AMP or other biogenic amines was reversed by cyclic GMP. The experimental significance and implicaton of these findings are discussed. |
