Potential methods for selective accumulation of nickel(II) ions by plants

The selective uptake of nickel ions by certain plant species is described. The observed selectivity relative to metal ions such as cobalt and iron cannot be explained on the known binding constants to oxygen-donor ligands, e.g., citrate. Nitrogen donors are shown to have adequate selective interaction.
