Abstract: | Summary Since 1982, the authors have carried out intensive immunohistochemical studies on the distribution of serotonin neurons in the central nervous system and have reported the distinctive structures of these nerve cells. In the present study, two characteristic findings are described with special regard to the histophysiological significance: (1) direct innervation of the cerebral arteries by central serotonin neurons and (2) the perineuronal ivylike serotonin plexus.Dedicated to Professor Dr. T.H.
