Abstract: | Summary A small outbreak of human ringworm caused byTrichophyton mentagrophytes var.granulosum is described. The clinical morphology of some of the inflammatory lesions was more suggestive of nummular eczema or psoriasis than of tinea corporis. The isolation of a granular strain ofTrichophyton mentagrophytes indicated an animal source of these infections. The same organism was isolated from a pet white rat which apparently transmitted the disease. These investigations were supported by a grant from the John. A. Hartford Foundation, Inc., New York, New York and the U.S. Public Health Service Training Grant No. 2A-5289.We wish to thank DoctorErnest Oehl of Philadelphia for referring these patients to the Skin and Cancer Hospital of Philadelphia. |
