Abstract: | The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of chlorphenvinphos and foschlor on the erythrocytes and leucocytes in the Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). It was found that there is no decided change in the number of erythrocytes after ingesting chlorphenvinphos, whereas foschlor significantly reduces RBC content. The effect of the two pesticides is shown by an increase in reticulocytes and erythroblasts. Chlorphenvinphos significantly reduces, but foschlor increases, thrombocyte content. Changes in the leucocyte system were seen after poisoning with both chlorphenvinphos and foschlor, in the form of distinct neutrophilic leucocytosis and eosinopaenia. A marked increase in the number of basophils was found after ingesting chlorphenvinphos, and a distinct increase in monocytes after ingesting both pesticides. |
