Abstract:COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 is a global pandemic disease, endangering human health and public safety. With the understanding of the structure, function and pathogenic process of SARS-CoV-2, more and more potential drugs are being developed.Cordyceps militaris is a traditional medicinal fungus that has significant antiviral effects. Cordycepin is the main active component of C.militaris which can combine with SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and main protease (Mpro), inhibit viral RdRp polymerase, and prevent SARS-CoV-2 from replicating in the body. C.militaris also has the function of improving the body′s immunity and repairing damaged tissues. The anti-SARS-CoV-2 mechanism of cordycepin and other related pharmacological functions of C. militaris were summarized. This review will provide reference for the adjuvant therapy of cordycepin for COVID-19.
Keywords:Cordyceps militaris   SARS-CoV-2   COVID-19   cordycepin   immunoregulation
