Abstract:
Cell cultures prepared from transplanted Morris Hepatoma #44 and host liver were grown in media containing 10% fetal calf serum depleted of iodothyronines. Addition of 200 nM triiodothyronine significantly stimulated the rate of cell replication and thymidine kinase activity of hepatoma cells. The responses of adult liver cells were similar but less marked. This study documents for the first time that the growth of hepatoma cells in vitro is thyroid dependent.
