Abstract: | Extrafloral nectaries are to be found embedded in the leaf laminaof Dioscorea rotundata Poir., with a pore opening on to thelower leaf surface. The nectaries comprise small, densely cytoplasmiccells and are bounded by a layer of cells containing littleor no cytoplasm. Their secretion contains sucrose, fructoseand glucose with traces of galactose. Ninhydrin-positive compoundsare also present.
