Color Polymorphism in Birds:Concepts and Hypotheses of Evolutionary Mechanism

Polymorphism is meaningful in understanding the heredity,variation and evolution of species.The evolutionary mechanism of avian color polymorphism is one of the important parts in polymorphism research.Several main hypotheses have been put forward to explain the evolutionary mechanism of color polymorphism in birds,including disruptive selection hypothesis and apostatic selection hypothesis and nonrandom mating hypothesis etc.All kinds of hypothesis on evolutionay mechanism of color polymorphism in birds are summarizd and a general review about the controversies and absences of existent references are also presented in the paper.
