Abstract: | The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a potent stimulator of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Chronic stimulation of the EGFR and of multiple steps in the MAPK signaling pathway is involved in the development of cancer. Several tumor viruses encode proteins that induce EGFR expression or stimulate EGFR-mediated signaling and are thus likely to play an important role in the transformation of virus-infected cells. |
