| Abstract: | serial of 55 vascular tissue samples surgically removed from atherosclerosis(As) patientsand 22 normal control tissues were examined for human cytomegalovirus immediately early (IE)and late(L)gene fragments by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).33 out of 55 (59.9%)As specimens were found positive for HCMV(IE positive in 1 and L in 26,while both IE andL positive in 6).Howener,only 4.5%(1/22)was positive in control tissues.These results showedthat there is some relationship between HCMV infection and As. |
