Abstract: | 1. The concentration of purine derivatives in portal and peripheral blood of steers, sheep and rats was measured by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. 2. Nucleotides, nucleosides (apart from inosine), adenine and guanine were not found in the plasma samples. Allantoin, uric acid, hypoxanthine and xanthine accounted for virtually all purine metabolites in plasma samples. 3. Non-oxidized derivatives (hypoxanthine and xanthine) were consistently detected in sheep but not in steer or rat plasma samples showing a differential availability of reutilizable purine derivatives between species. |
